About

Desiring to not only make a difference in the entertainment industry but to also set standards which seem to be absent from the field, Vanessa “L.A” Mullings founded LASELAND ENTERTAINMENT. The eleven-year-old company was created in an effort to knock down walls and focus on creative and progressive content, whether than further the practice of stereotypical contributions and ‘creations’.

The former hip-hip artist observed not only the creative side of music, but the business side as well. Refusing to be classified or pigeon-holed, Mullings found being a female hip-hop artist not only physically challenging, but also emotionally and mentally exhausting. While music executives wanted her to be one way; producers, at times, exerted their own personal perspectives and opinions and decided she should be another way. This ‘tug of war’ became too much for the young and talented writer/performer as she opted to make a difference in entertainment. She wanted to ‘stand out’, not ‘fit in’.

Understanding the concept of business at an early age, Mullings took a step back from the recording booth to take a more hands-on approach in the music industry. She established her own production company, which focused on writing, production, and vocal arrangement. Consequently, the professional and published SONY/ATV writer – and the second half of the writing team “TRA & L.A” – has worked with some of the industry’s top producers and chart-topping artists, which include but are not limited to: Mario Winans, Sean Combs, Destiny’s Child, Akon, Tamia, Brandy, Christina Milian, Britney Spears, and Toni Braxton.

Mullings is constantly seeking ways and outlets to not only showcase her known talent and abilities, but to also challenge the bold and expressive visionary to move beyond that which she sees. Recently venturing into other avenues of writing, Mullings is now working on several projects as an author, screenplay writer, and director. In addition to completing her first book, “THE NIGHT TRADE,” (released through LASELAND ENTERTAINMENT), the self-motivated, forward-thinking and creative being also has a completed script of the “THE NIGHT TRADE”.  Co-writing this script just whet the artistic appetite of Mullings as she already has her sights set on projects to produce. From the world of hip-hop to the world of film, crossing ‘the great divide’ was merely a pleasure walk for the dynamic, creative inspiration that is Vanessa “L.A” Mullings.
